- Tasmanian Organic Industry Strategic Plan.
As a major project of the OCT, the plan was developed in 2003 in consultation with over 60 participants from the industry across the state.
The two ‘key drivers’ of the plan were identified as;
- Provide information (arrange good information in an accessible form)
- Improve Industry Structure (continuously work to improve the structure of the industry)
The very formation, and continued function, of the OCT is addressing the second key driver.
The OCT now seeks to implement the plan by establishing an industry website and by seeking funds to appoint an administration officer.
- Industry website
The Tasmania Organic Herb Growers Association has provided a small grant to the OCT to assist in the establishment of an industry website.
It is proposed that this will include a listing of the contact details of those certified growers in Tasmania that are interested, and the produce they grow. Negotiations are also underway to list Tasmanian organic produce outlets and wholefood stores.
- Agfest (our premier agricultural field day)
Provision and staffing of an information tent over the three days of the event with material available to promote all six board members activities.
Increasing the awareness of the existence of the Industry Strategic Plan.
- Field Days
In conjunction with the Organics Unit of the DPIW, conduct several field days each year.
- Research
Building on the recent workshop conducted at the University of Tasmania (Burnie campus) to continue to assist in the coordination of research within the state.
Collection of research needs, priorities and the development of an inventory of organic research resources.
- Industry surveys
The OCT has conducted two industry surveys (2002, with an update in 2004).
The survey results can be read under the survey listing on this website.
